We have £2,115 of funding available, tell us what to spend it on

This public engagement is now closed. Please scroll down the page to read a summary of the results.

The Islington Linear Park is a long-term regeneration plan led by the communities' needs and ideas. Salford City Council is seeking funding opportunities to develop and deliver these plans, one step at a time. We currently have £2,115 of funding available through a developer contribution which needs to be spent on public spaces within the Islington Linear Park area to benefit the wider community by 15 July 2025. We are therefore asking the community to tell us what they would like these funds to pay for.

We have put together a list of suggestions to choose from. As the allocation of these funds coincides with the delivery of the Active Neighbourhood scheme, we believe focusing on improvements around the railway underpass could make the most impact and represent best use of the money. However, we are open to all ideas provided they can be realised with the available funding and harness wider community support.

Here are some suggestions on what the funding could be spent on:

  • Remove the fence along East Ordsall Lane park to make the space more open and accessible
  • Build mobile planters for the community to use and grow plants
  • Clean off graffiti on the wall along Stevenson Street

You can vote on these suggestions by scrolling down the page.

If you would like to talk to us about the available funding and its effective allocation, or the wider Linear Park project in person, we will be hosting a drop-in session at Islington Mill on 23 April from 6pm to 8pm. Please check out the event card below for more details or email shaping@salford.gov.uk.

Report summary

Salford City Council have £2,115 of funding available through a developer contribution which needs to be spent on public spaces within the Islington Linear Park area, to benefit the wider community by 15 July 2025.

We asked the community to tell us what they would like these funds to pay for by either voting on one of our three suggestions or putting forward their own.

The three suggestions put forward by Salford City Council were:

A community project where participants can learn about and grow pollinating plants, herbs and edible plants using mobile planters on wheels. The planters would be able to travel around the area to keep the community engaged.

Remove the fence along East Ordsall Lane park to make the space more open and accessible

Clean off graffiti on the wall along Stevenson Street

Over 2,400 residents in the Islington and Middlewood Locks areas were sent a letter in early April with information about the Islington Linear Park public engagement and ways to get involved.

The engagement on the allocation of the £2,115 funding consisted of an online survey and an in-person session to collect feedback.
